Since March this year, Tibetans have staged numerous protests in Nepal.

On July 25, over 100 Tibetans protested in front of the Chinese Embassy in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, shouting dissent over China’s rule of Tibet.

The protestors were subsequently rounded up into police cars by Nepalese police, according to Voice of America.

Human Rights Watch has claimed that the arrests are a result of pressure from the Chinese communist regime on Nepalese officials.

An agreement has been reached with the Philippines Government negotiators and the country’s largest Muslim rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, this being an important step towards the final settlement of one of south-east Asia’s most intractable conflicts.

The Government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front have been meeting for years to try to get a lasting peace agreement.
While some other issues are still to be settled, the land deal is seen as a vital breakthrough in helping end the rebels’ battle for self-rule that has cost over 100,000 lives and left the south of the country mired in poverty.

Qantas was ordered on Sunday to check all oxygen bottles on its fleet of Boeing 747s after investigators said an exploding oxygen bottle might have ripped a hole in a Qantas 747, forcing it to make an emergency landing at Manila.

Australia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CASA) said Qantas had agreed to inspect oxygen bottles on its fleet of 747s. The airline has about 30 of the Boeing model.

The Qantas aircraft made an emergency landing in Manila on Friday after part of its undercarriage blew off, triggering a loss in cabin pressure during a flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne.
