In Chile a Judge has ordered the imprisonment of almost 100 former soldiers and secret police from Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship.
It is believed to be the biggest mass arrest for abuses during that period, from 1973 to 1990.
The judge ordered the detentions as part of a probe into the kidnapping and killing of 42 people during Operation Colombo early in the dictatorship.

Authorities say there’s a possibility of new deadly tornadoes to strike United States midwest after at least eight people were killed when twisters swept through the region over the weekend.
Marble-sized hail fell over the town of Waterloo, Iowa where authorities reported significant damage to homes, trees and power lines, the report said.
Iowa Governor Chet Culver declared a state of disaster in three counties.

On Monday, a court convicted an alleged gangster and sentenced him to death for the fatal shooting of a popular mayor in Japans Nagasaki District
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty, while the defense had argued that was too harsh.
Mayor Iccho Ito, 61, was shot twice in the back at close range outside a train station in April last year while campaigning for re-election for his fourth term.

Disabled people can be unsocial, stubborn, controlling, defensive and have a strong sense of inferiority, according to an official Beijing Olympics guide set to spark outrage in the disabled community.
The Olympic manual for volunteers in Beijing is peppered with patronising comments, noting for example that physically disabled people are “often” mentally healthy.
China’s treatment of the disabled has in the past angered swimming great Dawn Fraser, who cited it as one reason she won’t be going to Beijing.

Four more people dead after recent a aftershock in south-west China killing two and injuring 20 making the death toll rise to six.
The four newly reported deaths from Sunday’s aftershock came in the city of Hanzhong in north-west China’s Shaanxi province, Xinhua news agency said.
The aftershock was centred in quake-ravaged Sichuan province and had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, an official with the Sichuan Earthquake Bureau told AFP.
It was the strongest of thousands of aftershocks in the region since an 8.0-magnitude quake on May 12 left about 86,000 people dead or missing, the official said.

A group of parents who’s child was killed by the Sichuan earthquake have staged a protest at the outskirts at Mianzhu county.
They claim that poor quality construction work of schools caused the deaths of their children.
The parents held photos of their kids who perished during the earthquakes and were not stopped by local public security personnel. The group then took a coach to Deyang to petition to the government.

Up to May 25, the Sichuan quake has left 62,664 dead and 358,816 injured and 23,775 missing.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says the death toll could top 80,000.
Sichuan province devastated by the earthquake is facing 6 major threats, including blocked transport, an emergency situation in the Yansai Lake with decomposing bodies polluting the water, splitting of mountain ranges and the threat of infections diseases.
