Silvio Berlusconi has won his third Italian election with a bigger than expected swing to the centre right, but the media magnate said it would not be easy to solve deep economic problems.

Votes were still being counted on Tuesday, but with Berlusconi’s victory clear on Monday evening, centre-left leader Walter Veltroni called the 71-year-old to concede defeat.

After two years in opposition, Berlusconi is expected to return to Rome from his home in northern Italy later on Tuesday, although for procedural reasons he is unlikely to be appointed prime minister before early May.

About 2,500 Chinese nationalists, most of whom are Chinese immigrants, turned out at a demonstration on Parliament Hill on Sunday to show support for Beijing’s actions in Tibet.

A recurring theme in the speeches was that the Canadian media have distorted the facts about the events in Tibet from March 10-14, the most intense period of the unrest.

The resulting Chinese crackdown saw reporters ejected from Tibet and neighbouring provinces.

In a report soon to be published, China has already overtaken the US as the world’s “biggest polluter”,.
The research suggests the country’s greenhouse gas emissions have been underestimated, and probably passed those of the US in 2006-2007.

The University of California team will report their work in the Journal of Environment Economics and Management.
They warn that unchecked future growth will dwarf any emissions cuts made by rich nations under the Kyoto Protocol.
Until now it has been generally believed that the US remains “Polluter Number One”.

Amnesty International has said the Chinese authorities have put to death at least 470 people last year, but may have killed up to 8,000,.

Amnesty said the hidden extent of executions in China, where figures are secret, might mean the Olympic host was behind the bulk of them worldwide.

“The veil of secrecy surrounding the death penalty must be lifted,” it said. At least 1,252 people are known to have been executed in 24 countries in 2007, a slight drop on the previous year.

On April 11 and 12, the Shenyang Intermediate Court and the Yilishen liquidation team issued announcements regarding the refund of farmers’ investments.

They claimed that 83 percent of the ant farmers accepted the government’s refund plan.

However, some ant farmers complained that the settlement would be less than 10 percent of their hard earned investment.

The reporter interviewed ant farmers in various areas of Liaoning, only a few of them knew about the announcements; most of them have not yet seen the actual news on TV or in the newspapers.

Today marks the last show in Adelaide Australia as the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular will next be performing in New Zealand.

Peter Arisandi a library customer service officer, attended the opening night of the Chinese Spectacular in Adelaide’s Festival Centre Theatre.

Mr Arisandi. a Chinese-Indonesian, enjoyed the historical stories and stories of hope and faith within the show.
He liked the colour, the costumes, dancing, and the harmony that they portray.

The costumes worn by the Divine Performing Arts company were designed to convey the traditions of China’s ancient culture, making them authentic and true to the history of time and each relevant dynasty.
